About The Attack
The Attack is a profound reflection on the horrors and costs of war. It is set at the height of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and centres on the character of Amin Jaafari as he is ripped from his comfortable life as a surgeon working in Tel Aviv and drawn into the terrifying world of terrorist organisations in a desperate quest to understand what drove his wife to become a suicide bomber. All of his beliefs and ideals are called into question, and Amin must ultimately choose what is more important to him: a cause worth dying for, or the intrinsic value of human lives. The Attack was first published in French in 2005, and won the Prix des Libraires in 2006. A film adaptation was released in 2012.
About Yasmina Khadra
Yasmina Khadra is the pen-name of Mohammed Moulessehoul, who was born in Algeria in 1955. He began his literary career during his 36 years of service in the Algerian army, and adopted his wife’s name as a pseudonym in order to avoid military censorship. He did not reveal his true identity until after he had left the army and moved to France. His novels are written in French, but have also been translated into many other languages and, in some cases, adapted into films. They have won several literary awards, including the Prix des Libraires.
