About Submission
Submission was published in early January 2015, in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks. It is a futuristic political and social novel which imagines the rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood Party in a fictionalized version of France in 2022. This results in drastic changes in the life of the protagonist, a lonely and misanthropic university professor named François, who must attempt to navigate this new reality in which women and non-Muslims are shut out of public life.
Submission was an instant bestseller in France and numerous other European countries, although it proved highly controversial and sparked heated debate as some accused it of fuelling Islamophobia.
