About Dracula
Dracula was first published in 1897. It tells the story of Jonathan Harker, a clerk who goes to visit Romania in order to finalize the sale of a property close to London. The interested buyer is Count Dracula, a mysterious man who the locals treat with fear and superstition. According to the French writer Malraux, Dracula is one of the few “myths created in modern times”.
Dracula was described by Oscar Wilde as “the best novel of the century”. However, it is interesting that the novel has become so well-known, since it originally did not enjoy the same popularity as other books of the same time. Dracula is also unique due to the fact that it is one of the first novels which was entirely typed.
