About The Old Man and the Sea
The Old Man and the Sea is a short by novel by the Nobel Prize-winning American author Ernest Hemingway. It tells the story of an elderly fisherman’s monumental struggle to catch a giant fish far out as sea. After 84 days without a big catch, he sets out early one morning in his little boat, before embarking on an epic three-day battle to reel in the huge fish at the end of his line. The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953, and contributed to Hemingway being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.

Ernest Hemingway was one of the major American authors of the 20th century. Several of his works are now classics, such as The Sun Also Rises, For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953. He was also a keen traveler, and spent time in the USA, Canada, Africa, France, Italy and Spain. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
