About The Officers’ Ward
The Officers’ Ward follows a young French officer, Adrien Fournier, who suffers a serious facial injury at the start of the First World War and spends the rest of the conflict in hospital in Paris, where he undergoes a series of operations. However, his face is never restored to the way it used to look, and when he returns to civilian life he is forced to get used to the stares of everyone he encounters.
The Officers’ Ward was extremely successful when it was first published and was adapted for the cinema in 2001, with Dugain writing the screenplay.
