About The Hidden Child
The Hidden Child was first published in Swedish in 2007 and in English in 2011. It is part of a series about Erica Falck and her husband, a police detective. In this particular book, Erica tries to get a gimpse into her mother’s mind through the diaries she has left behind. When her mother was still alive, she never treated Erica with anything but coldness, and her daughter is interested to find out why.
One of the most original features of The Hidden Child is its structure. This is all the more clear in the Swedish version, which has no chapters at all, and shifts in time are only ever implied through the line spacing in the book.
