However, he was orphaned when he was still a child, and so he decided to join the navy. He ended up spending more than 16 years in the British navy and became a British citizen in 1886. Thanks to his extensive experience at sea, which influenced much of his writing, he has become one of the most famous “sea authors”. Although Polish was his first language, he wrote all of his books in English, and is now recognized as one of the greatest English-language writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This practical and insightful reading guide offers a complete summary and analysis of Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
