About Interview with the Vampire
Interview with the Vampire tells the story of Louis de Pointe du Lac and his 200-year life as a vampire. In the course of his long life, he has lived in New Orleans and Europe, shared a tormented relationship with Lestat, who first turned him into a vampire, and grown close to Claudia, a vampire who is condemned to remain in the body of a five-year-old girl her entire life.
Interview with the Vampire is the first in a series of books titled The Vampire Chronicles, and is followed by The Vampire Lestat. It introduced many of the tropes we now associate with stories about vampires, including the tormented, brooding protagonist and sleeping in coffins, although it also challenges some of our preconceptions, with a main character who is capable of feeling empathy and seems to share many traits with the humans who should be his natural prey.
