About The Maltese Falcon
The Maltese Falcon is an iconic ‘hard-boiled’ detective novel featuring Private Investigator Sam Spade, who finds himself embroiled in a murder enquiry when his partner, Miles Archer, is shot dead just after they had agreed to take on an unusual job from a mysterious woman. After meeting with her a number of times, Spade discovers that there is much more to the situation than meets the eye, and that everything seems to be connected to a priceless artifact known as the Maltese Falcon. As the death toll rises, it is up to Spade to unravel the clues and unmask the murderer – and maybe even find the Falcon along the way.
About Dashiell Hammett
Dashiell Hammett was an American writer who specialized in crime fiction, and is generally considered to be the pioneer of ‘hard-boiled’ detective fiction, which explored America’s criminal underbelly with gritty, unflinching realism. Hammett also worked for a detective agency himself for a number of years, which influenced the content and tone of his work. In his later years he engaged in left-wing activism and was even elected president of the Civil Rights Congress in 1946, and was blacklisted under McCarthyism as a result.
