About If Only It Were True
If Only It Were True tells the story of two very different characters: Arthur, a lonely architect who is still haunted by his mother’s death years earlier, and Lauren, a young doctor who loves her job and relishes life. They are thrown together when Lauren is left comatose following a car crash and becomes a ghost, invisible to everyone except Arthur. The relationship between the two characters allows Arthur to finally face up to his past, and teaches them both about the importance of love and the necessity of living life to the fullest.
If Only It Were True was published in 2000 and translated into English the same year. A film adaptation, Just Like Heaven, directed by Mark Waters and starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo, was released in 2005.
